Why Lycra?
Many swimmers, professional and recreational, choose Lycra swim caps for use in the water. As opposed to latex rubber or silicone swim caps, Lycra caps are made of a more porous fabric that does not keep your hair from getting wet. The purpose, then, of Lycra swim caps is to keep hair out of your face and goggle straps and to give you a hydrodynamic position in the water.


As a rule, Lycra swim caps are about twice the price of latex swim caps, but they can last much longer. Whereas you can poke a hole in a latex cap fairly easily, Lycra is a stretchable material that will withstand much more abuse.


How to Wear Lycra Swim Caps
Lycra swim caps can be worn alone over the hair or over a latex or silicone cap. Many swimmers use this combination approach to give their uniform a streamlined look.
